Amphibians!

At Wildlife Whitsundays we're always looking to expand our collection of amazing animals. We're excited to announce that we'll soon be adding amphibians to our Creature Combo experience giving you the opportunity to learn more about our fascinating frogs.

Amphibians are an incredibly diverse group of animals that include frogs, toads, salamanders and newts. They are known for their unique life cycles in which they often go through a metamorphosis from water-breathing juveniles to air-breathing adults.

One of the most interesting amphibians you'll get to encounter is the Green Tree Frog (Scientific name: Litoria caerulea). This vibrant and captivating frog is native to Australia and is highly popular among frog enthusiasts worldwide.

What makes the Green Tree Frog particularly fascinating is its ability to change colour. While it is typically green, it can also change to shades of brown depending on its surroundings and temperature. This remarkable adaptation helps the frog camouflage itself and blend seamlessly into its environment.

Not only is the Green Tree Frog a master of disguise, but it also possesses a unique vocalability. During the breeding season, males produce a distinctive "reeeeek" call that echoes through the night, serving as a means of attracting females and establishing territories. This melodious serenade adds to the charm and allure of this remarkable amphibian.

Stay tuned for updates on our amphibian collection and educational programs. We can't wait to share our passion for these incredible animals with you.
