Lizards!

Lizards are a diverse and fascinating group of reptiles found throughout Australia, each with its unique appearance and behaviour. At Wildlife Whitsundays we take pride in showcasing the amazing world of lizards and providing educational programs to promote awareness of their conservation status and natural behaviours.

Two popular species we showcase are the Bearded Dragon and Blue-tongued Lizard. Bearded dragons are native to the arid regions of Australia, known for their distinctive spiny "beard" and docile nature. Their omnivorous diet consists of a variety of insects and plants. Blue-tongued lizards on the other hand, have bright blue tongues that they use to deter predators. These docile creatures are often found in urban areas and feed on insects, snails, and small vertebrates.

By observing these fascinating creatures up close, visitors to Wildlife Whitsundays can learn about their natural behaviours, habitats, and conservation status. For example, many species of lizard’s face threats such as habitat loss and fragmentation, climate change and the illegal wildlife trade. We hope that by educating our visitors about these issues we can inspire them to become advocates for the conservation of these amazing creatures and their habitats. Join us on a journey of discovery as we explore the incredible world of lizards.
